Hello September!

September 04, 2021

Just like that, September has arrived and with it, the expectation of autumn— the most beautiful season in my opinion. Yes, I will miss summer gardening, but there is something about fall that I just love. And even in the garden, you can see it too. Last summer/early fall flowers are blooming, roses are getting ready for a second flush, while other plants are going to dormancy. Such is the cycle of nature.

The arrival of September, is also a wonderful time in the garden, especially if you are a dahlia lover. This is the month when dahlias really kick into high gear. I find that from September-end of November, is when the are at peak. And this year is no different. Which is why my arrangement this week is more dahlias. I have dahlias in every room of the house, and I am in heaven. I tried taking photos of the vase indoors, but I wanted to try also photographing outside, so I did both. :)

For this vase I used a combinations of Cafe au Lait, Snowbound and Kogana Fubuki dahlias. I also added a beautiful hydrangea bloom to add texture and interest (not that dahlias need more interest). For the vase, I used a pottery pitcher that I got last year at Hobby Lobby for Thanksgiving. For those of you not in the U.S., Hobby Lobby is a crafts store and they sells home decors, craft items, florals, etc. And I love it! Interestingly, while I bought this pitcher for Thanksgiving, I never used it for that purpose. But I surely have used it as a flower vase. The result is an arrangements that is still very summery, but with slight hints of autumn.
