Big Poofy Dahlias ~ The Dahlia Obsession Continues...

August 29, 2021

Yes, the dahlias photos continue because they are exploding! Everything else is just going… blah right now. Too much rain (which we needed more at the beginning of summer), bugs and other stuff is just making my garden feel blah. We also had ridiculous storms the past two days that toppled the taller plants like the cosmos and others. I’m really over the mess. And so, my love is pouring into the dahlias.

My apologies for not being original, but as I mentioned in the last IAVOM, I love displaying flowers of the same type together. And I did this with the first ‘Cafe au Lait’ (CAL) and ‘Snowbound’ dahlias to bloom. CAL needs no introduction, and while I prefer the cream-tone CAL, this pink one is pretty too and huge— living up to its dinner plate category. Snowbound is a new dahlia to me, and I particularly chose to grow it because a pure white dahlia has always been my “unicorn” flower. For years they all failed, and this year when I literally planted them and really did not do anything special, they grew beautifully. I’m just in love with it.

They are so beautiful on their own that I used a simple glass vase I bought at a thrift store. Did I ever tell you about my love for clear glass vases? Maybe I will save that story for another IAVOM. :) Happy gardening?
