The New Nest Chronicles: Rebuilding with Intention, Beauty, and Heart

Yesterday marked one year since the fire that took our home. It’s hard to put into words the mix of emotions—grief for what was lost, gratitude for what remains, and hope for what’s ahead. In this season of rebuilding, we’ve found ourselves not just constructing walls but reimagining what “home” truly means.

We’re now in the final stretch of our home rebuild—each nail, each brushstroke bringing us closer to a new beginning. God willing, we’ll be gathering around our own table this Thanksgiving, surrounded by family, friends, and the warmth of a space built with purpose.

Reimagining the Nest is a series born from that journey. It’s about designing a home that reflects who we are and how we live—a place where family can gather, community can be welcomed, and everyday life can flow with grace. With remote work woven into our rhythm and hospitality close to our hearts, we’re crafting a space that balances beauty, functionality, and intention.

Each post will share how we’re shaping this new nest—from cozy corners for connection to layouts that support both productivity and celebration. We’re building not just a house, but a haven. And we’re so glad you’re here with us.

My Home Office/Library

To kick off this series, let’s start with the very first space that will be set up—my home office/library. As a remote worker, I knew this was an opportunity to create a space that wasn’t just functional, but beautiful. A place that works for me, inspires me, and feels like a retreat within the home.

This room will be upstairs on the second floor, facing west—perfectly positioned to catch the breathtaking sunsets we’re blessed with. And yes, we’re rebuilding right on the same spot where our previous home stood. There’s something deeply meaningful about that—like reclaiming the ground with hope and intention.

For this space, I envisioned a coastal theme: soft blues, sandy neutrals, natural textures, and light that dances across the walls. I wanted it to feel relaxing and inviting, a place where creativity flows and peace resides. It’s where I’ll work, read, dream, and plan. It’s the first feather in our new nest—and I can’t wait to share how it comes together.

This mood board was thoughtfully curated to reflect my vision for a space that’s not only beautiful and calming, but also highly functional. I thrive in environments that are clean and uncluttered—visual noise disrupts my focus. So, you won’t find knick-knacks scattered around; that’s just not me. Instead, anything that needs storing will be tucked away in seagrass baskets that blend seamlessly with the coastal aesthetic, adding texture without distraction.

For the built-in bookshelves, I’m going with a crisp white finish—clean, timeless, and versatile. The design was inspired by a photo I fell in love with, but I’ve chosen a simpler trim to better complement the clean lines of my desk and the modern edge of the black-framed windows. It’s all about harmony: letting each element speak without competing, and creating a space that feels cohesive, calm, and intentional.

The mix of textures and materials in this space strikes a beautiful balance—organic yet modern, with a comforting warmth that makes it feel truly lived-in. I’m genuinely thrilled that I trusted my instincts while curating this mood board. Every choice reflects not just my style, but my need for a space that feels calm, intentional, and deeply personal. I cannot wait to show you how it all comes together! I think this is going to be my favorite space after the kitchen.
